Accountability Partners Are Key To Staying On Track
Now that you’ve gone through the process of setting your goals, the next thing that we’ll talk about is how to get the support you need to really excel.
One of the best ways to do this is to look for an accountability partner.
Since we use the example of losing weight, let’s use that example here.
Having an accountability partner can be one of your best tools for meeting your goals.
On a day when you’re just not feeling like going to the gym, knowing that someone else would be waiting for you would be motivation, not to skip it.
Now this is true of lots of different types of goals as well.
If you’re a blogger and you’re trying to focus on making sure that your posts are increasing, maybe you’re increasing from one to three posts a week, and that’s your goal.
Find another blogger that would like to go on this journey with you.
You might even consider making it a challenge. It’s a win-win because you would be growing your own following and working together in a partnership with other bloggers at the same time.
There’s always a way to find support and accountability from someone else to help you stay on track so you can achieve your goals.
Stay Motivated To Meet Your Goals
It’s so important that you stay motivated towards achieving your goals.
One thing that I like to do right after I set my goals is to put something up in my home, or in my office, or wherever the goal applies.
Then, be sure you put it where you can see it every day.
Next, add some motivation towards that goal. You may have a quote or two that’s framed and looks beautiful on your wall.
These will serve as a reminder of what it is you want to accomplish. You put your plan up so you don’t forget how you plan to accomplish your goals.
Let’s say that we use our weight loss example. Maybe your goal is to lose one and a half pounds every month leading up to your ultimate goal.
Whatever it is, be sure that you have some motivation! That might also come in the way of playlists to keep you motivated while you’re doing your exercise.
For the blogging example maybe your motivation is to listen to podcasts to help motivate you on blog post ideas or new ways to record blog posts.
Whatever it is, set yourself up for success by staying motivated as you work towards your goals.
Confidence Is Key | Meet Your Goals
One of the most important things that you can do as you’re setting your goals with success in mind is to have confidence in the fact that you are able to make those positive changes in your life.
If you’re setting a goal and have zero belief that you’re going to accomplish it, guess what, you won’t.
Be sure to set goals that you know are achievable. Yes, they are going to be challenging and maybe even aggressive. But it’s important to set goals that you know that you have the ability to accomplish, and access to the resources to get there.
It’s really important to remember that having a positive mindset, truly impacts your outlook, and your perspective on life.
If you don’t believe you can accomplish your goals, why should we expect that other people will believe you can?
It’s time for a little pep talk.
You’re capable of achieving anything you set out to do. Just remember that people are going to doubt you. They aren’t you so they don’t completely understand you the way only you can. And the reality is, they don’t have to.
You focus on the things you know you need to accomplish.
Intentionally Seek Inspiration To Meet Your Goals
Another way to stay on track with your goals, and be sure that you achieve the success that you’re looking for, is to truly and intentionally seek out inspiration.
Find other people who have accomplished the goal you want to achieve or something similar.
There’s something about seeing someone else who already accomplished it that makes it that much more achievable.
In Fail-Proof Goal Setting Strategy to Achieve Your Goals I used a blogging and weight loss example for goal setting.
If your goal is to lose weight, you can pick any number of people that have already achieved the success that you’re looking for.
Maybe your work life is something that you’re trying to make adjustments on, find someone that you respect that has made the change that you’re looking to make.
Working off the blogging goals you could easily go find a blogger that you respect most as inspiration. Click on their blog and see what they have done. It’s always good to make connections with other bloggers that you respect.
Not sure how to find another blogger to help you meet your goals or to use as inspiration?
Here are a few tips:
- Search your main topic on Pinterest
- Look at posts that align closest with your niche
- Watch for consistencies in the author or website posting them
- Use Tailwind Communities to make connections with other bloggers
- Look for bloggers that have been in the community for a while
- They likely have a high number of pins contributed in the community
This is true in any goal you have in life.
The example I provided above is for bloggers but you can apply the same idea with any topic. You can use any platform to find inspiration!
You’ll find great inspiration if you intentionally seek it out.
Give Yourself Grace | Don’t Get Discouraged
The most important thing that I’m going to share with you today is the next to last step. Give yourself grace.
There are going to be bumps in the road, and you might not achieve exactly what it is that you set out as you reach milestones. That’s okay.
The key here is to adjust along the way!
You didn’t know what you didn’t know, right? That’s normal and to be expected.
You will meet your goals every time if you give yourself grace when you start to fall off track and adjust your milestones and strategies.
The reality is you’re human. It’s important to remember that we are creatures of habit. We have a tendency to make excuses. And we also have a tendency to self sabotage. Be sure to allow yourself to dream bigger, dream better.
And give yourself grace when you fall short of meeting your goal 100%.
Just remember failure right now just means an opportunity for success later.
When this happens, be sure to remind yourself why it was that you set the goal in the first place.
This is why you wrote everything down when you were setting your goals.
Look back to your “why” and reassess your goal, maybe you need to change the strategy to reach your goal.
It could be as simple as changing a few steps along the way.
Celebrate Wins and Milestones
Finally, our last step to setting goals and achieving them is to be sure to celebrate success.
Now, celebrating success doesn’t necessarily mean that when you reach the final goal is when you celebrate. Be sure to celebrate your small wins and milestones along the way.
This will help you stay motivated.
Consider rewarding yourself as you work towards your goals, and meet your milestones.
There are so many different ways that you can do this, be sure to pop over to my post on 15 Ways to Reward Yourself.
It’s a great self care read that includes several different ideas for rewarding yourself as you start to hit your milestones on the path to success.
The reality is you are capable of whatever it is that you believe you are capable of.
Set your goals then work through all the steps of how to meet them!
