10 Ways To Focus On Self Care With a Busy Daily Routine
Choosing to dedicate some “me time” to yourself can be a challenge for anyone. Add in the fact that you have a busy daily routine. The likelihood you avoid carving time out for yourself can be slim for many women.
Keep scrolling for 10 simple ways to be sure you fit self care into your busy schedule.
Get Organized To Free Up More Time
One of the most important things to do if you want to fit self care into your busy daily routine is to get organized.
You may be thinking that you can’t possibly find the time it takes to organize everything… HELLO… that’s why I’m here! I need a break!
Sound familiar? If so, don’t worry. You can totally get your life organized without throwing off your entire schedule.
If you start small you can begin by making to-do lists for the day. Just write down all of the things you want to accomplish today. Just be sure to keep it close by and actually check things off as you get them done. Refer to it often!
Then, once you’ve got that down, add in a weekly planner. Take a few minutes to write everything down for the week. Sunday afternoons when I’m sitting down for a few minutes is my favorite time to plan the week.
Once you’re comfortable with that, move on to planning your month. Just take a few minutes to write out what you’ve got coming up. Remember you can always add to it. ZERO stressing allowed.
Before you know it, you’ll be planning out your life with no worries!
Every time you accomplish one of these time-management lifesavers you will free up a little more time. You’ll actually free up more time by taking a few minutes to plan and organize your life!
Give Yourself Permission To Have Some “Me Time”
You’re already here reading this post. So, on some level you’re looking to decrease stress, be more productive and just get some me time.
It’s totally normal to feel guilty about wanting some time to yourself. This is especially true when you’re thinking about trying to fit self care into your already busy daily routine.
BUT, the reality is, you need it! Don’t make the mistake of looking at self care as an “extra” thing.
Not sold? Stop and think about it for a second. Remember the last time you did something for yourself. Maybe you got a manicure, went to a movie, took a bubble bath, read a book… Whatever it was, remember how you felt after you did it.
Giving yourself some self care time every day (even if only 5 minutes when life gets crazy) is how you ensure you can keep up with the busy daily routine you have.
I raised two beautiful kids. One thing I realized way later than I should have is, I needed to teach my kids that taking time for themselves is important. It’s something I hadn’t even considered until they were nearly teenagers. No one wants to see their adult children working themselves into unhealthy lifestyles and being burnt out.
So, whether you are a mom or not, give yourself permission to take some “me time”!
Do A Digital Detox
If you’re anything like 99% of the world you are probably thinking, no way! My phone is my lifeline!
Doing a digital detox is really about setting aside some time to truly disconnect. You are intentionally carving out time where you commit to not using any of your digital devices.
If the idea of having time without technology is overwhelming, try starting with 30 minutes or an hour one day. Then, just build up the amount of time you are away from technology each time you do your digital downtime.
Here are some ideas for things to do without technology:
- Put your devices away for lunch time
- Commit to phone free time 30 minutes before you go to sleep
- Wait to use your phone until you’ve been awake for 30 minutes
- Have a conversation with someone
- Declutter a small space
- Read a magazine or book (the old-fashioned way)
- Let your creativity get some face time
- Clean your house
Whatever you do, give yourself some time away from all of your digital devices for a quality digital detox.
Pamper Yourself
There is no better way to refresh your life and feel renewed than to pamper yourself a bit.
There are so many different ways to pamper yourself and you can do it on any budget. The important thing is that you take some time to spoil yourself a bit.
Here are some fun ways to pamper yourself.
- Take a luxurious bubble bath
- Get a (or do an at home) manicure
- Enjoy your favorite drink in your favorite spot at home
- Listen to some calming music
- Use a detox facial mask
- Stretch while listening to relaxing music
- Go for a walk
- Sleep in (you can do it.. 🙂
- Color in an adult coloring book
- Enjoy your favorite healthy snack in silence
- Go on a Girl’s Night
It may not seem like it now, but you absolutely can fit self care into your busy daily routine and carve out some time to pamper yourself! Give it a go. You won’t be sorry!
Reconnect With Yourself
So, you have a busy daily routine and you want to free up some time for yourself! If that’s the case you probably haven’t been taking the time to really focus on what you love.
One of my favorite things to do when burnout and exhaustion are on the horizon is to reconnect with old hobbies and things I used to love to do.
Think about things that used to bring you joy. Maybe you used to love to do a specific type of craft or had a routine that you loved. Sometimes just sitting and watching your favorite childhood movie can be the best pick-me-up!
Hopefully, even as you’re reading this, you are smiling at the thought of that “thing” that you used to love to do! Take time to do it. You deserve it!
Whatever it is, take a few minutes to fit self care into your busy daily routine with some time to reconnect with yourself.
Give Yourself A Little Me Time
One of the worst things about having a hectic daily routine is that you rarely have any time for yourself.
You are probably in a constant state of going from one place to another. Even when there is time where you are technically going anywhere, you’re surrounded by other people.
Moms out there… you know what I mean. Your busy daily routine includes problem solving from the loo! Even the bathroom isn’t sacred!
Everyone needs a little time to just be with your thoughts. You would be amazed at the difference a few minutes of peace and quiet, alone with yourself, can do!
Even if it means locking the bathroom door to get some me time, intentionally set aside some solitary time for you. Your body, mind and spirit will thank you for it!
Indulge In Your Favorite Chick Flick
What is it about watching a movie that makes you smile, laugh and cry that is so therapeutic? I’m no doctor so I can’t honestly say but what I do know is … it feels amazing.
Watching a movie you love has the ability to lift your spirits almost immediately. Maybe you get transported away just long enough to take a step back from your busy life.
I love to read a good book but watching a good movie is one of those things that I just can’t give up. I have a (minimum) of one date a month with myself to watch a good chick flick.
Here are some of my favorites.
- Dear John
- 27 Dresses
- The Notebook
- What a Girl Wants
- A Walk to Remember
- Bridesmaids
- Holidate
- About Time
Definitely take some time to make your favorite snack and watch a good chick flick! It’s a great way to fit some indulgent self care into your busy daily routine!
Remember To Laugh
Ahhh, laughter. Remember that elusive thing that you used to do? The one that had the power to completely shift your mood in seconds?
I remember a moment when my kids were younger but not babies anymore. Literally going from one thing to another and feeling pretty much like super mom because I was getting so much done!
I was helping my husband out and doing things for him each day, the kids had everything they needed too. PTO President – check! Dutiful Army Wife – check! Full time student – check! House clean – check!
You get the idea. I was getting a ton done everyday. Basically, moving from one thing to the next because I scheduled it that tightly. Then one day the kids decided they wanted to have a nerf war in the house. We played for hours and I laughed like I hadn’t in years!
It wasn’t until I laughed so hard and so long my cheeks hurt that I realized how badly I needed that.
Laughter is the best medicine sometimes. Take the time and allow yourself to have some fun and laugh till it hurts.
Get Into A Healthy Routine
Let’s be honest. You can’t keep up the pace you have with a busy daily routine if you don’t make sure it’s a healthy routine.
If you’re focused on the end game, your ultimate goals in life, then you have to be sure your everyday activities are setting you up for success!
I have several posts on this topic because I’ve been in that place where my busy routine led me straight down a road that ended poorly.
- Eating unhealthy
- Unhealthy sleeping habits
- Moody & Unsettled
- Gaining weight
- Low self-worth
- General irritability
Avoid getting caught up in unhealthy habits and start focusing intentionally on having a healthy routine that allows you to truly show self love.
Set Up A Monthly Routine
Ultimately, the goal is to have a healthy monthly routine that you can sustain.
Yes, your circumstances will change. When they do, your routine will adjust with them. That being said, having a monthly routine is critical if you intend to have a successful busy daily routine.
One can’t really exist without the other.
I have a whole post on how to set up a monthly routine. It’s born and bred from years of trial and error and definitely worth the read. Check it out here!
When you are sticking to a monthly routine undoubtedly you will find yourself really planning everything out. The days of forgetting big events, missing birthdays and anniversaries will be in the past.
I created this life planner with the idea of successfully planning your time and it even has space for your self care in it! Check it out here!
